Backseat Driver

Work-in-progress lyrics that I’ve been working on for about a week now.  The bold part is supposed to be the chorus.

We were drivin’ 65, there was nothing in our way

With open roads ahead, we had a clear shot to the coast

“Nothing can stop us now”, I would boast

But then you spoke up from behind, to ruin my day

That’s when I knew you were a backseat driver

When I turn left, then you say right

Backstreet driver

You don’t know it yet, we’re about to fight

Backstreet driver

If we took your advice, we’d be here all night

Backseat driver

So just shut your mouth and enjoy the sights

It may be true that I’ve made mistakes

After all, nobody is perfect

But that doesn’t mean that you know better

To those back home, we’ll write you a letter

Cause it’s going to be awhile with this backseat driver

When I turn left, then you say right

Backstreet driver

You don’t know it yet, we’re about to fight

Backstreet driver

If we took your advice, we’d be here all night

Backseat driver

So just shut your mouth and enjoy the sights

Sometimes I feel that you don’t realize

That the final decision is mine

You second guess me all the time

But your logic is skewed, you’re simply unfit

To be the captain of this grand trip

When I turn left, then you say right

Backstreet driver

You don’t know it yet, we’re about to fight

Backstreet driver

If we took your advice, we’d be here all night

Backseat driver

So just shut your mouth and enjoy the sights
